I found it quite discriminatory , and so I rang up my friend , a senior guy in SBI , that my company should be threatened by a declaration of NPA , merely for overdrawing the ODI limit by 30 crs and here you work out a bail out of more than 1200 crores for a company which is already sunk..so my friend said get the Minister to arm-twist the Bank....the nexus between Crony capitalism and a dishonest political executive can sink any economy . The pattern is quite common. Start a Pvt Ltd Co....suppress income ... make profits on the sly...then plan for IPO ... raise fake invoices ... boost income ...bring IPO... raise public money... raise turnover....build a network of dealers who can put in fake purchase bills ... raise black money....launder it ..thru Mauritous or Timbuktoo ...invest in newer businesses ...go on milking the company...let it starve and die a slow death. Start the process again.

The US government has apologized for the burning. However, I think this is the third or fourth incident like this; US should train its soldiers "dos and donts" before they dispatch these young boys to distant lands and even more distant cultures.

It is also possible that the "right wing" elements within the US army did this - the presidential primary season is on in US and an US apology will be considered a weak sign of President Obama, adding to the negatives republicans attribute to him

Interesting that you just assume that some "context" will miraculously alleviate the offensive nature of the content in question. Has any evidence been provided to you of 1) offensive or controversial content from the book 2) context 3) exact nature of the miraculous transformation of that offensive content into harmless chaff? If so, how can you just assume that the extracts by themselves were not serious enough to be construed as being offensive IN THEMSELVES. It seems your own totally one-sided hack-job of a blog-post is based on nothing but prejudgment and arrogant false assumptions.

I agree with you. In fact the BJP is responsible for "persuading" the congress to make money on a large scale in the 2G, CWG and Adarsh scams. In fact, BJP also instigated the Supreme Court to go after the congress government in the scam cases.

The BJP also invited the congress for a tango, during which, because of its inexperience in tangoing with unlike parties, the congress made some knee-jerk dance steps, which is understandable. What is not understandable is the BJP's refusal to accepr its own moral responsiblity for the government's knee jerk reactions.

Having read Heehs' earlier book on Sri Aurobindo, his other historical and biographical investigations into the life of Aurobindo, having seen first-hand his work on the new Collected Works, I had been looking forward to reading the big book he spoke in 1998 when I met him. I was stunned to learn that it is not being published here because of a case, but was not aware of the ban as such. I read the Columbia University Press edition and think it an excellent, scholarly work. I don't know if you are aware, but the campaign against Heehs led to his being removed from the Collected Works project, as well as from his job as a physical instructor from the school. Those who claim to be Aurobindo's "followers" (he rejected the term) should read him properly--one of the most extraordinary minds to appear in this country, and one who had an incredibly wide ranging intellect. And one who belived in a free mind, and differences of opinion, as demonstrated in his reply to Dilip Kumar Roy's letter on Bertrand Russell, a friend of Roy.

Perhaps being new to government administration Mamta didi doesn't know the law. There is a "no work, no pay" law in existence all over the country. Nothing special for Poshchim Bongo.

What a load of rubbish to somehow imply that CPM rule rang in the death of industry in Bengal and the Congress rule was great.
Bengal Chemical was started in late 19th century- it was on it last leg since I remember- early sixties.

As in the rest of the country, Congress, having ruled and ruined virtually the entire country till 1977.
Anandabazar Patrika has always been a very strong Congress aligned paper- because they are by instinct free-market. Bartaman- started by Barun Sengupta, originally from the ABP stable- is virulently anti-left.
Now that the Congress is n decline in WB, ABP has transferred its allegiance to TMC.
If any doubt remains, listen to Jayanto Ghosal defending TMC and Mamata like any party spokesman would.
